Board Game Designs

From conception to prototype, designing board games is an all encompassing challenge. From the logo to the package to the game components, all aspects of the game need to be cohesive and easily manageable. The rule book needs to be clear and comprehensive, and the game play must be fun and intriguing to make players want to engage. Everything from the box to the board to the cards need to be carefully crafted with acute attention to detail.

Vintage Faire

Vintage Faire is an area majority strategy game with a fun vintage theme. Players compete to curate the most appealing booth and attract the most customers to sell their wares and make the most money. On their turn, players will either be adding items to their booth for sale or making their booth the most attractive to the customers. This game was showcased at PAX Unplugged 2024 in Philadelphia, PA and will be on Kickstarter in Q1 of 2025. You can read a quick overview of the game here.

EVOLVE

Evolve is a worker placement game in which players progress through all the stages of human evolution. The game is played on a transparent acrylic casing and the boards slide underneath so they can be changed as the game progresses. Fitting the hundreds of cards and components in a manageable box was an especially interesting challenge. I made a section in the bottom of the box for the case, a removable container for the cards that need to be displayed during the game, and compartments for the rest of the components underneath the boards and rule book.

ESCAL8

Escal8 is a drafting board game with the theme of settling a new planet. Players compete to grow their colony the fastest by progressing their technology. When playtesting, players were able to understand how to play this complex strategy game with a simple 2 minute explanation because of the clear iconography and color coding.
